Investing nearly $1 million in our community!
Albemarle Area United Way is proud to invest $921,712 across its nine-county service area, supporting programs and initiatives that strengthen local communities. Announced at the organization’s annual luncheon, this milestone reflects the generosity of donors and the dedication of AAUW’s Board of Directors. Founded in 1957, AAUW celebrated a record-breaking year in 2023, expanding its impact throughout the region.

Aloha! Anela Tory joins AAUW
Albemarle Area United Way is excited to welcome Anela to the team. Originally from Oahu, Hawaii, she recently relocated to Elizabeth City and is eager to share the “Aloha Spirit” with donors, partner agencies, and the community. With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and private sectors, Anela brings expertise in fundraising, event planning, volunteer management, and donor relations, along with a passion for philanthropy and community impact.

AAUW finishes out Spirit Week with Girls Scouts of the Colonial Coast as Partner Agency of the Year
Albemarle Area United Way announced a record-breaking investment of $401,106 to support more than 20 partner agencies and community organizations across the region. Fueled by a historic 2020 campaign, the funding will help strengthen local programs and provide critical support for residents, including relief efforts related to COVID-19 and Tropical Storm Isaias.

2019 Campaign Shatters Record! Publix is Part of the Reason
Albemarle Area United Way shattered its fundraising record during the 2020 campaign, raising an incredible $640,512 in pledges—$184,000 more than the previous record. During Virtual Spirit Week, AAUW also recognized Publix of Kill Devil Hills with the 2020 Spirit of Giving Award for its outstanding employee generosity and commitment to supporting local communities through United Way.

Virtual Spirit Week kicks off with Albemarle Hopeline winning Spirit of Community Award
Albemarle United Way kicked off its virtual Spirit Week by honoring Albemarle Hopeline with the Spirit of Community Award. Recognized for nearly four decades of service to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, Hopeline continues to provide critical support during challenging times. The event also highlighted the impact of the Community Care Collaborative, which helps local families overcome temporary crises and achieve long-term stability.

Covid-19 Response
Albemarle Area United Way’s COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund provides critical support to residents across Northeast North Carolina facing challenges during times of crisis. Donations help fund essential needs such as food, housing assistance, childcare, hygiene supplies, and emergency services. Since its launch, the fund has distributed more than $42,000 to local nonprofits and community organizations serving vulnerable individuals and families.
