2020 Day of Caring: How Will YOU Make a Difference?

AAUW finishes out Spirit Week with Girls Scouts of the Colonial Coast as Partner Agency of the Year
Albemarle Area United Way announced a record-breaking investment of $401,106 to support more than 20 partner agencies and community organizations across the region. Fueled by a historic 2020 campaign, the funding will help strengthen local programs and provide critical support for residents, including relief efforts related to COVID-19 and Tropical Storm Isaias.

Virtual Spirit Week kicks off with Albemarle Hopeline winning Spirit of Community Award
Albemarle United Way kicked off its virtual Spirit Week by honoring Albemarle Hopeline with the Spirit of Community Award. Recognized for nearly four decades of service to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, Hopeline continues to provide critical support during challenging times. The event also highlighted the impact of the Community Care Collaborative, which helps local families overcome temporary crises and achieve long-term stability.

Inaugural Philanthropy Award Dinner
Albemarle Area United Way hosted its inaugural Keel Club Philanthropy Awards Dinner on November 7, honoring Bruce and Anna Biggs for their exceptional generosity and commitment to the community. Held at the Carolina Center, the evening also featured the presentation of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine—the highest civilian honor in North Carolina—to Bruce Biggs in recognition of his outstanding service and leadership.

AAUW has a record breaking year
Albemarle Area United Way exceeded its 2019 fundraising goal, raising more than $450,000 and marking its strongest campaign in years. Announced during the annual Campaign Kickoff and Awards Luncheon, the record-breaking effort will provide approximately $236,000 in support to partner agencies across the region. The milestone reflects the generosity of donors, workplace campaigns, and a growing number of Keel Club members committed to strengthening local communities.

Bocce Beer & Bites - BIG SUCCESS
Our 2019 community event was a tremendous success, bringing hundreds of neighbors together at Waterfront Park while raising more than $20,000 to support programs and services that improve lives across the Albemarle Area. Thanks to the generosity of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, the event made a meaningful local impact. We look forward to continuing this family-friendly tradition and serving our community together.

Our Little Library is officially open! Take a book, share a book, and help inspire a love of reading throughout our community. This special addition, generously provided by Publix Super Markets, offers a simple way for neighbors of all ages to discover new stories, exchange favorite books, and enjoy the power of literacy right here in the Albemarle Area.

Nags Head Girl Scout Earns Silver Award
Girl Scout Senior Madison Pugh earned her Silver Award through her “Chemo-Care Kits” project, providing comfort bags to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Inspired by the impact cancer has had on friends and family, Madison assembled 50 care kits filled with thoughtful items and encouraging messages. Her project brought comfort to patients, addressed a community need, and inspired others to continue supporting those facing cancer.
