With 20 years of administrative experience, a passion for helping others, and a love of reading and book reviewing, Jessica is eager to make a positive impact across the Albemarle region.

Andy & Karin Montero Honored with 5th Annual Philanthropy Award
At the 5th Annual Keel Club Philanthropy Awards on November 21, 2024, Albemarle Area United Way honored Andy and Karin Montero for their exceptional dedication to the community. Held at Seven Sounds Brewing in Elizabeth City, the event celebrated the couple’s lasting impact and commitment to service. As Andy shared, “Never undervalue the impact you can make by simply doing what you can.”

Special $25k Grant Announced
Albemarle Area United Way has launched a special $25,000 grant to support innovative solutions addressing homelessness among adults age 65 and older in Northeast North Carolina. Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations are invited to submit a Letter of Intent by October 4, 2024. The initiative aims to spark collaboration, new ideas, and lasting impact for one of the region’s most vulnerable populations.

Community Care Collaborative Hires New Leader & Celebrates 4 yrs
Albemarle Area United Way is celebrating four years of the Community Care Collaborative, which has helped more than 1,600 households and invested over $500,000 in crisis assistance across the region. AAUW also welcomes Alexandra Lekki as the new Community Care Collaborative Manager, where she will lead efforts to support neighbors in need and strengthen community impact through collaboration and compassion.

Hurricane Relief Fund
When disaster strikes, Albemarle Area United Way is here to help our neighbors recover. By donating to the Hurricane Relief Fund, you help provide critical resources such as food, water, clothing, home repairs, tree removal, and long-term recovery support for residents across Northeast North Carolina. Every dollar donated goes directly toward helping local families rebuild and recover.

Investing nearly $1 million in our community!
Albemarle Area United Way is proud to invest $921,712 across its nine-county service area, supporting programs and initiatives that strengthen local communities. Announced at the organization’s annual luncheon, this milestone reflects the generosity of donors and the dedication of AAUW’s Board of Directors. Founded in 1957, AAUW celebrated a record-breaking year in 2023, expanding its impact throughout the region.

Aloha! Anela Tory joins AAUW
Albemarle Area United Way is excited to welcome Anela to the team. Originally from Oahu, Hawaii, she recently relocated to Elizabeth City and is eager to share the “Aloha Spirit” with donors, partner agencies, and the community. With more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and private sectors, Anela brings expertise in fundraising, event planning, volunteer management, and donor relations, along with a passion for philanthropy and community impact.
